SB 361 -- HOSPITAL, PUBLIC HEALTH, AND MUSEUM SALES TAX

SPONSOR:  Stouffer (Nance)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Local
Government by a vote of 15 to 1.

This bill allows the City of Excelsior Springs to increase the
tax levy up to 30 cents on the $100 assessed valuation from the
current 20 cents for hospital, public health, or museum purposes.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2006, FY 2007, and
FY 2008.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill will give the city one
more tool to help develop the downtown area.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Stouffer; and City of
Excelsior Springs.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
